Recording sound - shoot at 24 fps?

Hello...I'm new to the world of super 8, and have been reading that 18 fps is standard for silent shooting. So does this mean 24 fps should be used when using sync sound? I'm going to be shooting a music video that requires a bit of lip synching, and just want to make sure what speed I should be shooting at. Thanks!

18 fps will playback faster than reality. The faster the actors/players move the more this becomes obvious. I filmed an aggressively fast band that came out looking like a cartoon!

Then again, I don't know what causes more drift (descrepancy in filming speed), filming at 18 fps or 24. Seems like my old cameras film more steady at 18 fps than at 24 fps. If you are really serious and have money to invest in this get a camera crystal synched and it will film at exactly 24 fps. But yes, I believe you will have an easier time synching at 24 fps because at 18 fps their lips will be moving faster than the music!

C_77 is a right about fps thing. Look at "depend on your camera" Like he said camera with only 18fps which is regular motion than camera with 18fps and 24fps that it would be speed like charlie's dance real faster because of speed. There are many ways to do syn sound like I used. I focus on picture fine because film is hard to have a fine picture that way i can use syn record to add the music and the voice to have match the picture however NOT PERFECT match because of timeline on edit system but a fine picture with sound which it is all PREFECTLY, Barkfectly sorry my dog is barking. One more thing to add. Sound can be caution because of sound real everywhere that can stick sound on film even accident drop something or anything that be hurtful to your budget of buy a roll of film,... Jerome

Whether she shoots at 18fps or 24fps the video is going to be 30fps and require a pulldown, meaning the video will not look speeded up. I see no reason why sound cannot be synced to 18fps just as it is synced to 24fps.

So how does a pulldown work? Do they double-up every other frame during the transfer or something? Where can I read more? I have shot a lot at 18 fps to use with sound and figured I could put it in the computer someday and magically make it work. But post synching a wild camera, and wild sound is no easy feat; I'm sure of this.

Is The Filmmaker's Handbook still in print? Do you know who the author is? I searched Amazon for it and couldn't find it.

still in print. i can't seem to locate my copy. it's written by two people. one named Pincus i think. the whole title is a Filmmakers Hanbook, a comprehensive guide in the digital age. try again. Borders carries it.
